| Un hélicoptère de type Lama piloté par une équipe de la MONUSCO prépare son atterrissage, le 31 janvier 2014, à l’intérieur du cratère du volcan Nyamuragira pour y effectuer des études séismologiques. A une altitude de 9.800 pieds, l’appareil a pu se poser à environ 400 mètres du puits de lave pour y déposer un groupe de volcanologues. L’équipage réussira plus tard à y extraire les chercheurs avant de les reconduire sains et sauf à la base de la MONUSCO à Goma. Le Nyamuragira et la Nyiragongo sont deux volcans en activité situés dans la périphérie de la ville de Goma, surplombant le Lac Kivu à la frontière avec le Rwanda. Les experts décrivent le Nyamuragira comme étant le volcan le plus actif en Afrique. Il est entré en éruption une quarantaine de fois depuis 1885. At an altitude of 9, 800 ft., the helicopter landed some 400 m away from the lava well to drop the volcanologists who were to conduct the study. Later, they were safely airborne and brought to their ba! se at MONUSCO Headquarters in Goma. Nyamuragira and Nyiragongo are two active volcanoes, both located in the vicinity of Goma, overlooking Lake Kivu at the border with Rwanda. Nyamuragira has been described as Africa's most active volcano and has erupted over 40 times since 1885. |

| Les FARDC ont lancé hier jeudi les Opérations militaires « Sokola2 » pour le désarmement des rebelles rwandais des FDLR. L’annonce a été faite à partir de Beni-Ville, par le Chef d’Etat-major général des FARDC au cours d’un point de presse conjoint, avec le Commandant des Forces de la Monusco. Martin Kobler, le Représentant spécial du Secrétaire général des Nations Unies en RDC a déclaré à cet effet: « Je salue l’annonce du lancement des opérations militaires contre les FDLR par le Gouvernement congolais. La MONUSCO soutient pleinement les FARDC, tant sur le plan opérationnel que logistique. » The FARDC launched yesterday, Thursday, the “Sokola 2” military operations for the disarmament of the Rwandan rebels of the FDLR. The announcement was made in Beni-Ville by the FARDC Chief of Army Staff during a joint press conference with the MONUSCO Force Commander. Martin Kobler, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in the DRC, stated: “I welcome the announcement of the launch of military operations against the FDLR by the Congolese Government. MONUSCO will provide full support to the FARDC, both operationally and logistically.” |
