Lors d'un braquage qui tourne mal, Valentin Tralande (Villeret) tue ses complices et les clients d'une banque. Seul avec un confortable butin, désœuvré, après un long périple, il se réfugie dans un hôtel de luxe, où son attitude étrange interpelle la direction qui par précaution prévient la police. Quand on demande à Tralande de descendre "pour une question de registre", il sort de sa chambre, tue l'un des policiers venus à sa rencontre, puis un second. il entre ensuite dans une chambre louée par Kristine et Pierre qui viennent de se rencontrer et de passer la nuit ensemble. Il prend le couple en otage et demande un véhicule pour fuir, commence alors une longue traque avec voitures de police, hélicoptère et gendarmerie qui finira par la mort de Valentin.

During a robbery that goes wrong, Valentin Tralande (Villeret) kills his accomplices and the customers of a bank. Alone with a comfortable booty, idle, after a long journey, he takes refuge in a luxury hotel, where his strange attitude challenges the management who, as a precaution, warns the police. When Tralande is asked to come down "for a question of register", he comes out of his room, kills one of the policemen who came to meet him, then a second. he then enters a room rented by Kristine and Pierre who have just met and spent the night together. He takes the couple hostage and asks for a vehicle to flee, then begins a long hunt with police cars, helicopter and gendarmerie which will end in the death of Valentin.

L’Alouette fait son apparition dans le troisième tiers du film, lors de la très longue cavale du fugitif (Villeret) et de ses deux otages (Marlène Jobert et Bruno Crémer). L’Alouette suit d’abord longuement la Peugeot 505 des fuyards qui file sur une petite route encaissée dans des gorges, essayant de trouver le moyen l’immobiliser en tirant dans un pneu. Mission compliquée, les tunnels se succèdent sur cette route et les gorges ne facilitent pas l’action. Pour notre plus grand bonheur, la scène s’étirant sur de longues minutes. On revoir apparaitre constamment l’Alouette et son tireur d’élite jusqu’à la scène finale. L’Alouette F-GDHT porte sa peinture blanche civile, mais avec une grosse cocarde sur le panneau latéral pour la faire passer pour une machine de la police.
