Le Détachement SAR à Waterford a vu le jour le 1er juillet 1998 dans le but de faire face aux accidents sans cesse plus fréquents tant en mer qu'à l'intérieur des terres dans cette région servant de lieu de villégiature pour bon nombre d'Irlandais. Il a toujours été équipé d'une Alouette III détachée de Baldonnel à l'exception du Dauphin "248" arrivé le 1er juillet 1999 et tragiquement perdu la nuit suivante. Le détachement a été dissout le 22 avril 2002, remplacé par un Sikorsky S-61N civil loué par les garde-côtes.

The Waterford SAR detachment was established on July 1, 1998, to address the increasingly frequent accidents—both at sea and inland—in this region, which serves as a holiday destination for many Irish people. It was consistently equipped with an Alouette III detached from Baldonnel, with the exception of the Dauphin "248," which arrived on July 1, 1999, and was tragically lost the following night. The detachment was disbanded on April 22, 2002, and replaced by a civilian Sikorsky S-61N leased by the Coast Guard.
